Set up in 2014, it is run by a team with many years of specialist experience developing luxury properties in central London. This same team have now taken their experiences to Mallorca with two luxury villa developments in Port Andratx. The team also has a passion and a love for the island of Mallorca, themselves property owners on the island.
One of the main philosophies of Clara Development is to employ designers, builders and architects from the local area, the kinds of people who will have an affinity and understanding of the surroundings which will be reflected in the properties they create.
Mallorca is the largest of the Spanish Balearic Islands set in the beautiful Mediterranean Sea. Glorious sandy beaches lapped by turquoise-blue seas and a rugged interior mountain landscape make this island paradise a popular choice for those wanting a break from the colder northern Europe climate, in both summer and, particularly in winter when temperatures can be beautifully pleasant. The island geography presents distinct areas with the fertile almond groves and windmills of the Es Pla plain situated in the centre of the island, the rugged mountains and coastal cliffs of the north and west and the sandy beaches and caves of the east coast.
The vibrant capital of Palma, dominated by the Gothic cathedral La Seu, offers a buzzing cultural experience for wandering, shopping, eating and drinking. The stunning architecture plots a pathway of styles through the ages influenced by the Romans, Arabs and even Antoni Gaudi who spent time on the island overseeing restoration work on the cathedral.
For active individuals, Mallorca is a paradise having become one of “the” destinations for cyclists with many of the top teams spending time here training. Nautical themed pastimes are found throughout the island and there are multiple ports that can cater for boats of anything up to super-yacht size - a new jetty in Port Andratx close to our current projects can moor yachts up to 35m. Scuba diving, snorkelling, sailing, water-skiing and other watersports can be done all around the island.
Polo is becoming increasingly popular on Mallorca with the season lasting from the end of February through to November. There are a number of centres found on the island. Spanish Partridge shooting is another growing activity with shoots up in Formentor as well as one close by the villas near Andratx.
For a more relaxing activity, why not visit one of Palma's theatres for an evening of entertainment which might include the world-renowned acrobatic troupe Cirque du Soleil who can be seen regularly throughout the summer in Palma. A pre-show drink in one of Palma's bars would also be advised - perhaps try Abaco, a beautiful courtyard bar in the heart of Palma's old town where you are surrounded by fountains, fresh fruit and flowers and waiters dressed in traditional uniform.
There are well over 50 five-star hotels dotted around the island including the Belmond La Residencia, the Jumeirah Port Soller both on the west coast, the La Reserva Rotana in the east and the Cap Rocat just a few minutes drive from Palma airport.
If you like your food, Mallorca has a selection of Michelin Star restaurants - try the 2 Star Zaranda, for example, described as "exceptional" in the Michelin guide. There is also Es Fum, just a short drive from Port Andratx with a Michelin star for their international cuisine. For a truly amazing experience, try one of our favourites, the Emilio in Palma offering a fantastic fusion of Mexican, Asian and Mediterranean cuisine - a true feast for the taste buds. A walk down the hill into Port Andratx will offer a number of top quality restaurants - Sumailla offers a fusion of Japanese and Peruvian cuisine and is right down on the quayside where it is all happening. Trespais has many a top review and both Vent De Tramuntana and Can Pep offer both delightful food and locations with views over the bay.
Golf courses can be found all over the island. Poniente Golf Course, Golf Santa Ponsa and Golf de Andratx are all within a short drive of Port Andratx. For tennis buffs, why not get a few lessons at the Rafa Nadal Tennis Academy in Manacor and you may even be lucky enough to run into the man himself.
Over the years Mallorca has attracted many notable visitors and residents – Prince Rainier and Princess Grace spent their honeymoon here, Michael Douglas and Catherine Zeta-Jones are known to have lived on the west coast, Jack Nicholson, Tom Cruise and Jennifer Aniston have been spotted relaxing in various places over the years and many a billionaire has moored their super-yacht within the confines of the port in Palma and enjoyed the delights the island has to offer.
All-in-all Mallorca offers a unique setting in which to spend time expending as much (or as little) energy as one wants. The beautiful climate, the ease of access with its proximity to all major European cities, and its wealth of culture and opportunity offer an ideal location in which to invest. It truly is one of the jewels of the Mediterranean.
